He had many friends. He was easy to get to know because he was so easy to talk too. When people met him, they would tell him their life story with-in minutes. The crazy thing is he listened and was interested. He always found something in common with everyone he would meet. He made people feel loved and important. What could be more important in life than making people feel loved?I always enjoyed being in Tyler's company. He was always entertaining and enthusiastic about life. When you spent time with Tyler you had a smile on your face. I will cherish my memories with Tyler. His spirit of friendship will have an eternal impact on my life.
~James Hardy
Brother in-Law
September 18, 2008 12:07 PM

Two Roads diverged in a Yellow Wood ....

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there,
Had worn them really about the same
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood,
And I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference!
-- Robert Frost (1874–1963)

The above poem made me think about big and little decisions... and my having to choose always just one of two roads, ... how the gift of choosing has blessed my life. How many times in life we think, "Did I take the right path?", "Did I make a right choice?" "Where is my road leading me to?" "Will I be happy with decisions I make? "Today we reflect on life...life lived to an "nth" degree... a life full of experience, because of the life and the passing of Tyler Carlston. It has been said "to know a man...one must look into his heart".. and today more than ever, we know his heart ... it was so very immense...yes, I know Tyler. Tyler...a man who was fearless in choosing of the two roads... making it his way... and that for him made all the difference! Greet us when we arrive, dear Brother Ty! ... for we shall meet you at the divergence of two roads, and will need you to guide us home! We shall always love you and never forget ... feeling your energy and presence in our memories of you always loving life! He was very generous to others. He was always smiling and recently when a member of my staff had problems with her daughter, it was Tyler who spent a couple hours on the phone with her, a complete stranger and a concerned mom. She has thanked me several times for giving her his phone number. What an incredible guy. Even if you hadn't seen Tyler in years he was your best friend.
~Andy and Shawna
September 19, 2008 12:27 PM

We are so saddened to hear the news of Tyler's death. He was an inspiration to so many people, myself included. Our hearts and prayers go out to Tyler's family and friends during this hard time. We love you all.
~The Rojos
September 19, 2008 4:47 PM

I miss him so much already it hurts. Tyler was much more than a friend to me. He was a confidant, teacher, leader, shoulder to lean on and cry on, motivator and brother. He always forced me to think outside of the box and at times live out side of the box. He forced me to push my own limits, experience new things that I would have not otherwise. His energy and love for life was infectious and would fill all around him. We had so many more things to do together in this life. So many more adventures to undertake. So many more challenges to overcome. The world has become a more boring place without my brother Tyler. I love you Tyler and cant wait to see you and give you a big hug on the other side. You left us too soon. I am broken hearted.

All my love a prayers go out to the Carlston family and others who loved Tyler as I did.
~Peter Briggs
September 19, 2008 6:10 PM

The last time I saw Tyler he had tracked me down to go meet up and help an old friend of ours who had just returned home from prison and needed friends and support. He was was selfless and always concerned with others. My memories with Tyler include making explosives out of aluminum foil and hydrochloric acid, scout camps, many a church activity, and always very entertaining conversations about anything and everything. I think he nearly beat me up once too when we were idiot teenagers, although I'd like to think I could take him in recent years.
~Jeff
September 19, 2008 6:41 PM

Go Big! That was Tyler's motto back in the day. And it was how he lived his life. Everything he did in his life was with so much passion, energy, fun, and love. I don't think I have seen him since leaving home for college. My first memory of Tyler (and the one that always springs to mind when I've thought of him) was when his dad was our home teacher and Tyler would come along when he was about 7 or 8. One time Tyler begged his dad to have me come over to play. I don't remember much about that day other than he told me about a golf ball hitting his dad's car and his dad getting mad, and I thought it was really funny. Tyler turned out to be quite the guy and it's just sad to see it end early, but his family has a lot to be proud of and thankful for.
~Jason
September 19, 2008 10:08 PM

Tyler had a passion for love and life that was contagious. He walked into a room and faces lit up. No matter how much time had passed since the last time you met, he had a way of putting things in perspective and bringing you to the moment, like you had never been apart. His stories brought you with him on his travels. His smile and laughter were genuine, and he listened like a true friend does.Tyler was like a brother to me. He is my brother’s best friend, and part of my family. He knew the importance of keeping in touch, as well as the importance of forgiveness. He knew life was not perfect and was able to show people that no matter what, they mattered. Tyler, you will be missed by the Yates family. You have done more for us than words can say. You are a son, brother, and friend. Thank you for your faith in the human spirit and your resilience in times of trouble. I know we will meet again and I can say, I miss you, and thank you for making me the person I am today.
~Katie Yates Campbell
September 19, 2008 10:57 PM

Our hearts are heavy from the loss of Tyler. My name is Ryan Warner. I would like to tell you of the only interaction I had with Tyler. I only knew Tyler for the last 5 minutes of his life, however, I can tell that he was very loved and that he was such an amazing person. As I lie next to him at the scene of the accident, the few minutes I had with him will be unforgettable. Tyler is such a strong person and felt no pain through the whole experience. His passing was very peaceful, and the spirit was very strong. I had the pleasure of meeting Tyler's family last night, and it's obvious that each person in his family are truly strong and amazing people. Each one of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I'll remember and his wonderful family forever.
~Ryan Warner
September 22, 2008 5:07 PM

Mary and Greg, Thank you for bringing Tyler, his heart, love and light, into this world. Thank you for all that you give and all that you gave. I am more grateful by the minute for the amount of time I spent this past year or so with Tyler. I see now what a teacher he truly was. The only things that really mattered to Ty were the people he loved, which was most everyone he ever met, and God. That is really something in today's world. He loved you all so much. Chase, he was so excited to spend time with you when you came home from your mission, I looked forward to meeting you because of all the beautiful things he said, and he was right. Kelsi and Camber, he raved endlessly about you too. Harper and Sienna please know how much your father loved you and treasured the moments he spent with you. There was never a time you were not foremost in his thoughts and heart. May God's love be with you always Carlston family. You are of one beautiful and shining heart. May that heart be happy and light once again. I love your huggy family so very much.
~Shauna
September 22, 2008 5:36 PM

Sometimes in life, You find a special friend: someone who changes your life just by being part of it. Someone who makes you laugh until you can’t stop, someone that makes you believe that there really is good in this world. Someone who convinces you that there is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open it. Sometimes we are lucky enough to meet a person who stands out among all the other people. Someone who listens to what you have to say, no matter how unimportant, someone who listens without judging and when we find this friendship we must hold it in our hearts and never let it go … The first time I met Tyler he came walking over, no let me rephrase that strutting over with his contagious smile and with one look into his eyes I knew he was an angel. There was something so different about this man. He was a man who had so much love and wisdom to share. Tyler listened to everything, not just when people spoke beyond that, He shared, he didn’t want to keep the knowledge he had learned to himself. Tyler absorbed the energy around him and He was so connected to life that just being in his presence I truly felt alive for the first time. Tyler spoke to me about things that I never imagined he gave me a different way of looking at life and made me realize that things are not always in black and white. He was a great friend who shared my tears and my laughter, he always seemed to put a smile on my face. I am so heart broken without him. Tyler is my definition of living life and I will let him shine in me. In my life I've heard a lot seen a lot and it was very rare to meet someone with stories that would awe me. But Tyler had plenty. So when he said to me people are people I began to think here's a guy who has met so many different walks of life, is so educated in human nature and through all his experiences he comes up with three words "People are People". As it turns out those three simple words have helped me out tremendously rather than taking everything personally and racking my brain to figure out why people do what they do I tell myself people are people. Since there are so many different varibles that influence a persons behvior we can almost indefinitely never know why people do what they do. Tyler said a lot of things to me that have stuck. I could go on for a very long time about it. He has been such a huge impact on my life. He was someone I trusted for advice and for me that was huge and rare. What an amazing person, blessed are those who had the opportunity to know him. Tyler once said to me let me be your big brother being that I never had one. I,m honored to have a big brother such as Tyler.
~Sneads
October 5, 2008 7:50 PM

We will miss your bright smile, but your memories we will cherish always!

...
